Aston Martin sponsor the JockeyCam’s debut at Breeder’s Cup 2017 in Del Mar, California
JockeyCam made their debut at the Breeders’ Cup this Autumn sponsored by British luxury automaker Aston Martin.
This is the first time that a jockey has worn a camera on their helmet in a major horse race competition in the United States.
The JockeyCam has been much anticipated as it allows race enthusiasts to experience the excitement of the rice from the jockey’s perspective. NBC Sports producer Rob Hyland is quoted as saying that he has been trying to put a camera on a horse for years and hopes one day this will be the norm. He hopes that horse racing will follow the same path as motorsports in getting that onboard experience.
The Breeders’ Cup chose Mike Smith to wear the JockeyCam as he is the winningest jockey in their history. The race was broadcast live by NBC featuring live JockeyCam footage of Mike Smith as he raced. Mike Smith went on to win the Breeders’ Cup 2017 for the 26th time and this time the experience was captured in real time first hand as he experienced it thanks to the JockeyCam.
